Destiny is a look at the social, racial and cultural strife prevailing in Sri Lanka told through the lives of a dynasty of political movers whose fortunes intermingle with those of their nation. The thirty year racial conflict between the majority Sinhala people and the terrorist group known as the Tamil Tigers fighting for a separate Tamil state forms the backdrop of this novel. The two main protagonists, father and son, are locked in this spiraling social and racial conflict while dealing with their own personal and sometimes very public tragedies and triumphs.

The transformation of the son Mahasen from an innocent motherless child to a prime mover of the political arena through the astute guidance of his father is the thread that runs through the entire story line.Destiny takes a frank and unabashed look at the issues of marriage, fidelity, sexuality, religion, astrology and socialism which form the back bone of the Sri Lankan psychological make up.

the conservative garb that hides the real problems of a multi racial society is torn asunder as Destiny looks in through the very top of the pyramid of Sri Lanka hierarchy.Although it is some four years since the conflict in Sri Lanka had reached its military conclusion, Destiny suggests an alternative and in some ways a more realistic outcome than that of real life. It makes one wonder whether is this really how it all happened...
